Keen to establish a permanent base, our members’ generosity funded the move to the Kingsway Sporting Complex and, in 1973, the Olympic Kingsway Sports Club was formed. With new clubrooms and facilities, we quickly became the envy of our rivals and it wasn’t long before our senior soccer team became the best in WA. Coached by John Ward and led by stars Len Dundo, Steve Tombides and Steve Sceats, Olympic Kingsway dominated the late 1970s and early ’80s, winning two State League titles, three Top Four cups and a Night Series crown.
The huge training fields at Kingsway reserve also laid the platform for our famed youth academies and junior development. Over the years, Olympic Kingsway have helped nurture pathways for our juniors into Australian and representative squads. Eight players who have worn the Olympic Kingsway shirt – Stan Lazaridis, Richard and Michael Garcia, Chris and Jamie Coyne, Daniel De Silva, Jamie Harnwell and James Afkos – have also played for Perth Glory FC.
In 2020, the club completed $3.1 million redevelopment of our facilities, with Kingsway set to become the best soccer venue in Perth’s northern corridor. With new change rooms, a new grandstand and and $4 million in upgrades to come during 2021-23, the future is bright.
